Heritage Homesteads Tour Oberon Outdoor Week 2019

Come and explore our early settler’s homes in the area. On this full day tour, you’ll experience homes dating back nearly 200 years. Walk through the homes, speak to the owners, listen to their stories of survival, prosperity, encounters with Bush Rangers and learn about life in the 1800’s in the Oberon area. You’ll find it fascinating.

When we were creating this exclusive tour, each of us involved were totally consumed with the amazing stories, the architecture, the beauty, the stories of courage, tears, sadness and triumph. We all agreed, these stories must be told and must be part of Oberon Outdoor Week. We know you'll love it. Come join us on an historical adventure.

Three Stunning Properties

We have arranged for private exclusive access to three incredible private properties, not normally open to the public.

1)      Sydmouth Valley Homestead: Built c1826

2)      Mountain View Homestead: Built c1880’s

3)      Mutton Falls Homestead: Built c1840’s

Experience Sydmouth Valley Homestead’s beautiful original features throughout and learn of the intriguing family history during your extensive tour of the property. Sydmouth Valley Homestead is situated on the original route of the historical Cox’s Road, Australia’s first inland European road.

Heritage listed Mountain View Homestead and General Store is thought to be the only surviving homestead of its type in Australia. Made from wattle and daub (dab); a common construction method in early settlements as mud and timber were abundant, Mountain View Homestead and General Store sits in a picturesque valley surrounded by a running stream.

Most houses built in the wattle and daub style were confined to just one or two rooms on a single level. Mountain View was destined to be different. Built as a grand two story home with many rooms, a general store and is situated in a beautiful valley with a stream running around the homestead. Mountain View is heritage listed and is thought to be the only surviving homestead of its type in Australia.

Built by Richard Mutton for the Webb family, Mutton Falls Homestead was originally used as a farmhouse and dairy and has a wonderfully colourful history. More recently the homestead has been lovingly restored and is utilised as a bed and breakfast and events space with many couples sealing their vows in the beautiful grounds.

On this Heritage Homestead tour, you’ll meet the owners, hear their stories and enjoy a day like no other. It truly is a day of adventure and discovery that money cannot buy as these properties are not open to the public.

But that’s not all, you’ll enjoy a beautiful country morning tea in at Sydmouth Valley homestead and a seated hearty county lunch at the historical Mutton Falls homestead.
