Oberon Outdoor Heritage Homesteads Tour
Come and explore our early settler’s homes in the area. On this full day tour, you’ll experience homes dating back nearly 200 years. Walk through the homes, speak to the owners, listen to their stories of survival, prosperity, Bush Rangers and learn about life in the 1820’s in the Oberon area. You’ll find it fascinating.
When we were creating this exclusive tour, each of us involved were totally consumed with the amazing stories, the architecture, the beauty, the stories of courage, tears, sadness and triumph. We all agreed, these stories must be told and must be part of Oberon Outdoor Week. We know you'll love it. Come join us on an historical adventure.
Three Stunning Properties
We have arranged for private exclusive access to three incredible private properties, not normally open to the public.
1) Sydmouth Valley Homestead: Built c1826
2) Mountain View Homestead: Built c1880’s
3) Mutton Falls Homestead: Built c1840’s
Each of these three properties has enjoyed a unique existence and apart from Mountain View which is undergoing extensive historical restoration which you’ll see, have been continuously lived in by local families for more than 180 years.
Mountain View by contrast, is made in the very fragile wattle and daub (dab) construction method. It was a common construction method in early settlements as mud and timber were abundant. Due to the fragility, not many survive today.
Most houses built in the wattle and daub style were confined to just one or two rooms on a single level. Mountain View was destined to be different. Built as a grand two story home with many rooms, a general store and is situated in a beautiful valley with a stream running around the homestead. Mountain View is heritage listed and is thought to be the only surviving homestead of its type in Australia.
On this Heritage Homestead tour, you’ll meet the owners, hear their stories and enjoy a day like no other. It truly is a day of adventure and discovery that money cannot buy as these properties are not open to the public.
But that’s not all, you’ll enjoy a beautiful country morning tea in at Sydmouth Valley homestead and a seated hearty county lunch at the historical Mutton Falls homestead.
